Certified HMI Horticultural Assessment (Certified Assessment)

The Certified Assessment must be conducted by an HMI-authorized assessor. To request a Certified Assessment, you can

  • complete and submit our online Order an Assessment Form or
  • call the HMI Customer Service Department at (866) 937-6468. HMI will arrange for one of our authorized assessor to conduct your Certified Assessment.


Non-Certified Summary Report

HMI determines current replacement cost valuations from the Asset Inventory Form that you provide. To obtain a Non-Certified Summary Report

  • Click on the Property Owners tab above, create an HMI account at no cost, and use our on-line data entry application to complete your inventory. Using HMI's plant search application, you will be able to quickly and accurately create an inventory of the trees and shrubs on your property.

  • Download and print the Horticultural Assessment Agreement.
  • Complete all the required fields on the Asset Inventory Form (Attachment A) legibly. HMI determines current replacement cost valuations from the list that you provide.

  1. Identify the plant by its scientific name (genus and species).

  2. Examples: Quercus alba for White Oak
      Roystonea spp. for Royal Palm
      Betula nigra for River Birch




  3. Indicate the plant’s size by height and diameter. Take the diameter (thickness) at approximately 4.5 feet from the base of the tree.
  • For assistance in identifying a plant, HMI suggests that you

  1. Contact your landscape professional.
  2. Take a branch and/or leaves to a reputable nursery for identification.
  3. Call your agricultural extension agent for identification assistance.
  4. Visit the USDA's Website at www.plants.usda.gov.
  • Fax your completed Horticultural Assessment Agreement with Attachment A to (866) 646-8329 or scan and e-mail to contact@mgot.com. Your replacement cost valuations will be mailed to you within 10 business days.

  • Mail your completed Horticultural Assessment Agreement with Attachment A to Horticultural Asset Management, Inc., 107 Edinburgh South Drive, Suite 205, Cary, NC 27511.
